Overview — Your First Steps
What Stone Insights does
Stone Insights is a diamond pricing intelligence platform. You feed it diamonds — one at a time or in bulk — and it returns recommended sale prices based on real market data filtered through your own margin and strategy rules. Beyond individual recommendations, the platform tracks your inventory, monitors market segments, and alerts you when prices move.
Everything starts with a pricing profile. The profile holds your strategy, target margin, and safety floor. Once that's in place, the rest of the platform builds on it.
The five areas of the platform
Recommendations
This is where you price diamonds. Three modes cover different workflows:
- By Certificate — enter a certificate ID and supplier price. The platform looks up the exact stone in its market data and returns a recommendation. This is the fastest path when you already have a graded stone. See Price a Diamond by Certificate.
- By Parameters — enter shape, carat, color, and clarity manually. Use this when you don't have a certificate or want to explore hypothetical combinations. See Price a Diamond by Parameters.
- Batch (CSV) — upload a spreadsheet of diamonds and get prices for every row at once. See Batch Pricing from CSV.
Inventory and repricing
The Inventory module stores your diamond stock. You add stones individually or import them from a CSV, and the platform tracks each one with its specs, status, and current price. When market conditions change, you run a reprice session to recalculate prices across part or all of your inventory — then review, accept, and apply. See Track Inventory and Auto-Reprice.
Buckets and market segments
A bucket is a market segment defined by rules — shape, carat range, color, clarity. The platform tracks live statistics, supply volume, and trends for each bucket. You create buckets for the segments you trade in and use them as dashboards. See Organize Stones into Buckets.
Market alerts and analytics
Alerts watch your buckets and notify you when a price metric crosses a threshold you set. Analytics provide five dashboards covering market overview, segment trends, segment comparison, regional differences, and stone-level price history. See Set Up Market Alerts and Read Market Analytics.
Settings
Settings hold your pricing profiles, account details, default region and currency, and notification preferences. Profiles are the foundation — you'll create at least one before doing anything else. See Create Your Pricing Profile and Manage Your Account and Notifications.
A typical workflow
Most users follow this pattern:
- Create a pricing profile with your target margin and strategy.
- Price a few diamonds by certificate or parameters to see how the recommendations feel.
- Import your inventory and run a batch reprice to bring all prices in line with the market.
- Set up buckets for the segments you trade in most.
- Create alerts on those buckets so you know when prices move.
- Check analytics periodically to spot trends before they hit your inventory.
